Our next National Meeting is just around the corner and I'll admit it - people keep making fun of the fact that this meeting is in "OMAHA".
I asked our our Midwest Region Director, John Owens-Ream to say a few words about his fine town and why you should be as excited as I am for this weekend. (I really truly am besides myself excited to see Omaha, I've heard so many good things about it from the NE people).
As Midwest Regional Director, and a proud Nebraska Young Democrat- and as someone who has called this fine city home home since the age of 13- I'm excited to be welcoming the Young Democrats of America to Omaha…
…but something tells me I'm not even quite as excited as you will be once you've had a chance to explore our historic Old Market, party it up at our Midtown bar scene, and experience the unique flavor that truly makes Omaha, America's Heartland.
There are thousands of reasons to love this city, you may already be aware of many of them. If you use facebook or myspace, try searching for groups dedicated to Omaha (Omaha is my Homaha is perhaps my favorite). Online you'll find thousands of Omahans waxing poetic about our city, history, and culture.
Sure we don't have quiet the hustle and bustle of a Chicago or a NYC, but with our perfect weather in May, our incredibly easy to access airport and downtown, and our world-renowned dining, you'll be sure to enjoy every minute of your stay.
Your trip to Omaha for the Spring YDA Conference will seem less like a political conference and more like a vacation… you'll leave refreshed, a little exhausted, and excited to come back soon!
On behalf of the entire Nebraska Delegation, and the Midwest Region, we can't wait to see you this weekend!

Omaha is an amazing place! Quite literally one of the most unordinary, unique cities in the nation. However not only this weekend Omaha plays host to the Young Democrats of America convention but the Nebraska High School State Track Tournament as well. The tournament brings about 15,000 outstate Nebraskan residents into the city, making the tournament another contributing factor of the amazingness that Omaha truly is. As many know, Omaha also is the home for the College World Series which has been at this city for as long as I can remember. However athletics and sports isn’t what makes Omaha different from other cities. Omaha also has a world renowned facility for the performing arts, the Holland Performing Arts Center. This center is home to the Omaha Symphony Orchestra and adds to the artsy flavor of the city. There are also many art studios in the down town area most notably the Beemis Art Center. As my fellow Nebraska Young Democrat said, John Owens-Ream, once you come to Omaha it won’t feel like just another political conference but definitely like a vacation from the norm! Seriously…Omaha is definitely a place where one can loose themself in the hectic pace of life. The city’s laid back approach and diverse activities make Omaha “Homaha!”

John was correct in classifying Omaha’s dining as “world-renound.” Whatever your dining preferences, Omaha is sure to meet the demands of your palatte. As we welcome conference participants to Omaha, we encourage you to mingle with the many native Omahans who will be joining you on the conference floor. We would be more than happy to help you find a restaurant experience that may rival the fine dining of many of your own hometowns!
