YDA President David Hart just sent out this email to Young Democrats celebrating the Forth of July and introducing our new project, whYDA.org:
On this Fourth of July, whether you are a student a month into a much needed summer with no classes, a young worker excited to have a long weekend to celebrate with friends, or a young family looking forward to fireworks with the kids, you might notice that this year’s patriotic celebrations have a little extra hope and optimism attached to them. You see, this year the Fourth of July falls exactly four months before Election Day 2008.
Already, 2008 has proven to be the year of the young voter as a Young Voter Revolution sweeps the country. During many of the primaries and caucuses young voter turnout doubled, tripled - and in some cases - quadrupled compared to the numbers we saw in 2004. Even in deep red states like Georgia, Louisiana, and Tennessee, more young voters cast ballots for Democrats than Republicans.
Why are you voting for Democrats this November?
Tell your story at www.whYDA.org.The opportunity our generation has to sweep Democrats into office up and down the ballot in every state in the nation is unprecedented. Turning this opportunity into a reality, however, will take a lot of hard work. We need to do everything we can to convince our friends and family to vote for Democrats come November. With everyone gathering together to celebrate our nation’s independence, I can’t think of a better weekend to get started.
That is why YDA picked this holiday weekend to unveil our newest project. A web site designed to encourage a community of young voters to share why they are voting for Democrats and why they think others should as well. We call it whYDA.org (get it?), and in order for this to be an effective community building and persuasion tool, we need you to visit and tell your story.
Why are you voting for Democrats this November?
Tell your story at www.whYDA.org.At whYDA.org you can submit videos and written testimonials and share them with your friends. We are going to do everything we can to publicize submissions, and the best of the bunch will be used as a part of our large scale paid campaign operations to convince undecided young voters to cast their ballots for Democrats.
To introduce whYDA.org, we’ve put together a short launch video. Check it out below, spend some time on whYDA.org, and start putting together your submissions.
Watch the intro video.
Now it’s your turn. Get involved. Submit a video and tell your story.
Rest up and enjoy the fireworks; the next four months are going to be exciting!
Sincerely,
David Hardt

Abraham Lincoln once said and I quote, ” America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves. ”
Reply to William GilbertFor far too long “We” the people have sat on the sidelines while Wall Street and Washington ran up the score at Main Street’s expense. Now is the time that “We” the American people level the playing field. No long shall we turn a blind eye to the greed and corruption that has bred economic turmoil in this this great nation. The last eight years of failed Bush policies and politics has submerged this vast nation in to a cess pool of an unhonorable war and economical disparity. It is our time. It is America’s time. It is the hour for every American citizen to rise up and declare Now that we need change. No longer will we allow our social security , our 401K, our jobs, our homes, our children’s future be marketed away by the insatiable greed and corruption of Washington and Wall Street. On November Fourth 2008 open your wallets, and your purses. Turn your pockets inside out, check your bank book and ask yourself this one question: “Can I afford four more years of the same failed policies and politics of a Bush/McCain Administration.- William R. Gilbert, Jr.
Very moving argument. Thanks for the posting.
Reply to JeremyDear America,
Reply to William Gilbert“For time and the world do not stand still. Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or the present are certain to miss the future. “- John Fitzgerald Kennedy
We have come to a time in American History, where the hour of change is at hand for every American citizen. It is now apparent that we as Americans have allowed the past administration to neglect the very nation we hold so true. Under the administrations past have allowed our troops to fight for honor in a dishonorable war and our economy slip into economic peril. For far too many years we have bled our economy with two wars and as a result we have lost jobs for hard working Americans, neglected our infrastructure , and crippled our credit market. We have fed the bellies of fats cats in Washington and Wall Street to the point that the entire U.S. economy is suffering from economic starvation.
“Don’t forget what I discovered that over ninety percent of all national deficits from 1921 to 1939 were caused by payments for past, present, and future wars.” -Franklin D. Roosevelt
The war in Iraq alone has un-mercilessly bled our economy dry and set of a chain reaction of economic calamity across the entire globe. The Iraqi war was founded on false and dishonorable pretenses and has adversely strained our alliances across the world. Many believe that if we stay in Iraq that somehow we can win a fruitless war and leave with our dignity and honor. Yet, the reality is that we must admit and apologize for our dishonorable intrusion of Iraq ,for that is the true honorable way. The definition of Honor is as stated: honesty, fairness, or integrity in one’s beliefs and actions. A nation with honor is a nation who is honest in it’s values to be truthful to its people and the world. A nation with honor has the fairness to allow other nations to live in peace and prosperity. A nation with true honor is a nation with integrity, integrity to admit to their mistakes and take pride in correcting them. This America is Honor.
The past five years of war has severely wounded the American economy and to heal these wounds we must end our campaign in Iraq. The economic hemorrhaging of the Iraq war has crippled this great nation and strained our foreign stance in the world. We as a nation must unify under our founding principles of Liberty and Freedom to restore our glory and democracy.
“I am concerned about the whole man. I am concerned about what the people, using their government as an instrument and a tool, can do toward building the whole man, which will mean a better society and a better world. “- Lyndon B. Johnson
Together as a nation we must mature in to one and at this time in America we have lost sight of the unity that made us into a nation. For America to survive the test of time must open our minds and allow the bells of liberty ring into the 21st Century.Sincerely,
William Gilbert, Jr.
