Many young people from throughout the country have posted their stories on the reasons they are voting for Democrats this year in whYDA.org. The stories not only reflect our generation’s knowledge of the issues that affect our nation; but also their commitment to be part of the solution to solve these problems. From Giovanni from NC who is afraid his children will continue to grow up without health care; to Destiny from Las Vegas who believes and says “as Lincoln stated in his Gettysburg Address, in a government “Of the people, By the people, and For the people” and I believe in social justice on every end of the spectrum.” The stories that have been posted all reflect the diversity, intelligence, and loyalty of America’s youth. I encourage you to post a story, reflect on those of others, and invite your friends and family to do so as well by visiting whYDA.org. Below is Matthew from CT’s story, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did:

“The Presidential election of 2000 was the first election I was able to vote in. From there is was a tradition for me to vote at every election possible, in order to help steer the course away from the path we were bound on.

Now with a new hope for a better America, I am not only voting, I am volunteering my time by knocking on doors, getting people registered to vote and making sure people are going to the polls come this November. I have asked all of my friends to help me do the same with the hopes of getting our community to go from red to blue.

A majority of us see the current economy and are afraid of what it brings forth. The message I am presenting to my friends is one that with a little bit of faith and some work, we can change America for the better.

I believe America should be empowering our workers to do good, not what is best for a company’s bottom line. I believe that equality is for every one, yes everyone; straight, gay, male, female, black, white, brown, and that everyone should have equal opportunities to succeed. I believe that equal pay does mean equal for all employees.

We should not be afraid of our government, nor should we be marked as a “terrorist” for speaking out against our government. We should be able to live comfortably within the bounds set forth by our constitution. Free speech, freedom to peacefully protest our government and all other enumerated rights should not be encroached upon by any member of society - not even if that person is the President of the United States.

We can restore our tarnished standings from the past 7 years of Bush’s agenda and move forward with one that will re-pay the debt, create a new workforce and a better equipped sustainable workforce for America. We need to better educate all current students and ones that have yet to step foot inside the classroom. There needs to be a better understanding of world issues and that can only be taught by good teachers that need to be employed.

We can move America forward, and I am ready to be on the front line fighting for these issues. But first we have to elect good people that are willing to help move America forward and just by chance, these same people are also Democrats. Go figure.

My parents told me that American politics is like driving a car, to go forward you place the car in (D); to go in backwards, you place the car in (R).”
