Remember when Senator McCain was telling anyone who would listen that he would fight for the vote of every young American?
Well, it seems that Republican strategists think another strategy may be, well, more helpful to the GOP. Here is what they are saying at the RNC Convention about your likelihood to vote. From the Washington Times
Republicans can keep young voters who support Democratic nominee Barack Obama at home by giving their young relatives and friends gift cards to iTunes and Starbucks that are good only on Nov. 4, election day.
“That’s the only way to keep them away from the polls,” said Kellyanne Conway, president of The Polling Company, during a breakfast with the delegates at their hotel near the University of Minnesota.
I will have you know Ms. Conway that I think you are totally right. Please send as many ITunes and Starbucks gift cards to our office as you can round up. I promise I will hand them out to all the Young Democrats I know. This will SURELY keep them from voting. You can reach us at:
910 17th Street, NW
Suite 215
Washington, DC 20006
I prefer the ITunes to the Starbucks, personally — but whatever you can get.

I would love to get one of these cards just so I could take a picture at the polls holding one with a thumbs up. And of course for the free Starbucks as well.
Reply to McKennaHas anyone asked McCain about Gays in the military now that Gay Republican Groups are on his side? How about Don’t Ask, don’t tell? Since he is still fighting the Vietnam War that ended in 1975, maybe it seems irrelevant to him.
As for He’s “pro-country” not just a Republican, do we always support the “country’s” decision, or more accurately the President’s decision to wage an illegal war? That’s the real parallel between Iraq and Vietnam. McCain supports all wars, it seems, legal or otherwise.
Does he really believe that we honor those who have died by adding more of their buddies to the list?
I am wearing a tee shirt that says:

My Drug of Choice

Phil Ochs, an old folkie reminded us,
“it’s always the old who lead us to the war, always the young who die!”
Reply to bobThe Republican candidates and groups this year seem particularly vicious and unwilling to even consider opening their minds to another point of view. Blind stubbornness is not a substitute for wisdom. But Sen. McCain and his “Palin Possie” are much too stubborn to realize that. PEACE to us all.
Reply to Amanda CarpenterI believe you are all full of shit.
Reply to Josh McCainYou have no right to say that and I will not drop down to your level and swear at you. I will be the better person in this situation as apparently you were never taught to be. If you really feel the need to voice your opinion do it to yourself, because no one wants to hear you.
Reply to CarlyYoung democrats, please spread the word. Our sheer numbers at the polls will almost make an Obama victory a certainty. Post up registering links on blogs, emails, myspace, facebook, friendster, and tell everyone to vote! This election is too important to lose to another Republican more out of touch with the younger generation than ever before!

Reply to ymani would like someone to ask senator mccain why he stays on the topic of senator obama not having enough experience when governon sarah palin is younger than senator obama and has less experience. Is she fit to run the white house alongside of him? If so then what does experience have to do with it.democrat for life

Reply to robert whitsonThere are certainly generational issues and disagreements here. Young is not synonymous with ignorance. We’ve seen how innovation is restricted by holding to outdated ideas. Frankly I’m surprised how educated and experienced managers and business professionals can understand that adapting to change and avoiding a myopic view can be detrimental to their organizations, but can’t apply the same approach to government and politics.
A definition of insanity: Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
A definition of republicans: Choosing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
Reply to JeremyLet me amend my posting by saying that “… adapting to change and avoiding a myopic view can be beneficial and even crucial to their organizations, but can’t apply the same approach to government and politics. Not applying these principals can be Detrimental.Thanks.
