We Did it! On January 17th, by a vote of 356 yea to 71 nay, the House passed HR 5 – the College Student Relief Act of 2007. This bill, if passed into law, will cut need based student loan interest rates in half – a huge victory for all young Americans.

In his address to the nation, President Bush again attempted to explain a plan to win the war in Iraq. Instead of following the responsible course of action the Iraq Study Group suggested, he argued for a third escalation in Iraq – a move which the Young Democrats of America oppose. Young voters in the last election were loud and clear. We want a new direction in Iraq that will lead to an end of the war.
Citing the Denver host committee’s strong bid and growing Democratic gains in the Rocky Mountain West, Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean today announced that Denver will host the 2008 Democratic National Convention Monday, August 25 to Thursday, August 28.

Over the next week, the new Congress will introduce bills that will monitor honest leadership, open government, and fiscal responsibility; implement measures to raise the minimum wage for the first time in nearly ten years; implement the 9/11 commission’s recommendations; and increase price negotiations on drug prescriptions.
