The Virginia Young Democrats asks all Virginians to keep the students, faculty and staff of Virginia Tech in their thoughts and prayers today.

On behalf of VAYD and all our member clubs, we send our heartfelt condolences to those who have lost friends and loved ones, and our hopes for a speedy recovery to those who have been injured in this horrible and incomprehensible act of violence

All of Virginia shares in the pain that Blacksburg has suffered this morning, and all of Virginia will stand strong to helping our friends move forward from this terrible day.

So I am in the Atlanta airport right now enroute to beautiful Las Vegas, Nevada. "Why," you might be asking, "does this have anything to do with me or the YDs?"

Well - I'm going to YDA's Southwest Region Convention.

YD leaders from Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming are gathering for trainings, round-table discussions, elections of officers - and of course - a little socializing too.

I'll check in a few times this weekend (when I get net access) with photos and maybe even a few stories.

Hello from tourist and cherry blossom-infested DC!

I'm thrilled to be joining YDA as the new Executive Director.  I've been on the job for about three weeks now and I am re-energized daily by all of you — if an organization is as strong as its members, then I am confident we can handle anything the Republicans want to throw our way.

Speaking of being re-energized and those pesky Republicans, everyone's favorite "brain" is coming after us!  That's right, Karl Rove has been talking about young voters and how crucial they are to Republican victories. Michael Connery at Future Majority posted some Republican strategy documents highlighting increases in Democratic turnout among young voters.  This comes on the heels of Rove's interview with Politico.com where he mentions young voters as one of four demographic groups Republicans should be focusing on for 2008 and beyond. 

Now if that ain't motivation to go out and get organized, I don't know what is.
